World Press Freedom Day is celebrated annually around the world on May 3rd.

This important occasion represents an opportunity to honor the fundamental principles of freedom of the press and to pay solemn tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty. World Press Freedom Day also reminds us of the important value of press freedom in a democracy.

The theme of this year's commemoration is the "right to know."
