At this year's Transportation Research Board annual conference in Washington DC (held from Jan 23-27), the TRB Public Involvement in Transportation and Visualization in Transportation committees are co-sponsoring a free one-day workshop entitled "Visualize It! Using Visualization to Communicate and Enhance the Public’s Involvement in Transportation."
The day includes presentations on visualization and public involvement from several experts, and it also includes hands-on stations featuring various technologies. I'll be hosting the hands-on station for Second Life.
According to the official description, "This workshop explores the use
of visualization to support public involvement in transportation, with a
mix of presentation, discussion, and hands-on stations. Visualization
techniques will vary in technical complexity with a focus on guiding
participants to select appropriate visualization techniques to support
alternative public involvement contexts, including the engagement of
different audiences, applications to various project types, and other
appropriate factors."
No need to register for the workshop, just come by. However, seats are limited so you may want to arrive early. See more information at this link.
